Welcome to the personal portfolio and résumé site of me, John Moore Williams. I’m a copywriter by trade, currently employed by Esurance (you know, the car insurance company). And before you ask, no, I don’t write the TV commercials. I just write just about everything else.
But I’m not just a word nut.
Well, yeah, I am. But I love more than definitions, etymologies and the occult minutiae of grammar.
Indeed, it is my belief that the look and meaning of language are inseparable, and I always aim to make that union a harmonious one.
When I’m not busy writing or editing others’ writing, I keep busy with numerous design projects, creating everything from logos to business cards to websites for various small press publishers and local businesses.
My love of words extends from their semantic content to their visual form, and I try to work with both aspects whenever I set to work with words. Whether I’m designing the typographic hierarchy for a book or a website or working on my personal passion, visual poetry, look and meaning hold equal sway over me. Indeed, it is my belief that the look and meaning of language are inseparable, and I always aim to make that union a harmonious one.
I’m also a (visual) poet
When I’m not hard at work, I write a wide variety of experimental poetry, focusing mostly on visual interpretations of textual memes, a la the art forms variously called concrete poetry or semantic typography. See my (Visual) Poet page for more information on my work and publications.
